Erasmus Youth Exchange Project "A Healthy Food, For A Wealthy Mood!" Promotes Healthy Lifestyles and Cultural Exchange

Young Participants from Six Countries Collaborate to Combat Obesity and Promote Healthy Living

[Prague/Czechia], [15-19 September] - In a world where fast food and sedentary lifestyles are on the rise, a group of 48 young people from six different countries came together in Prague, Czechia, from September 15th to 19th, 2022, to address the pressing issue of obesity and promote healthy living through the Erasmus Youth Exchange Project, titled "A Healthy Food, For A Wealthy Mood!"

A Multinational Initiative

Participants hailing from Portugal, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Spain, Turkey, and Czechia collaborated in this meaningful project, organized by a consortium of partner organizations. These organizations include Sonrie a Europa (Spain), Guardian Angels of the World (Bulgaria), Association for International Youth Cooperation INTERAKTIV Bitola (Macedonia), Zift Hayat Boyu Öğrenme ve Eğitim Derneği (Turkey), ARTEMIS Education, Culture, and Sports Club (Portugal), and HEALTHY LIFE SPORT CENTRE (Czechia), which served as the host organization.

Addressing Obesity and Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles

The project had several key objectives, with a primary focus on encouraging young people to adopt healthier eating habits and engage in regular physical activity. The activities undertaken during the exchange aimed to:

Raise Awareness About Obesity: Participants presented data on obesity rates in their respective countries, fast food consumption trends, and efforts to combat obesity.

Promote Calorie Consciousness: Each participant calculated the daily calorie intake of the foods they typically consume and displayed the results in a cafeteria, encouraging mindful eating.

Experience the Challenges of Obesity: Participants took part in an "Obese Experiment," donning multiple layers of clothing and attempting daily activities to understand the physical limitations that obesity can impose.

Healthy Eating Discussions: Participants engaged in discussions about healthy eating practices, including the definition of snacks, strategies for improving daily nutrition, and the risks associated with fast food and processed foods.

Dance Against Obesity: Dance, recognized as a vital tool in the fight against obesity, played a role in the project. Participants taught each other traditional dances from their respective countries.

Promote Erasmus Plus: The project also introduced participants to the Erasmus Plus Programmes, providing valuable insights into the program's scope, activities, and project types.

Obesity Films: Groups formed based on gender and age balance created short films addressing the topic of obesity, fostering creativity and critical thinking among participants.

Youthpass Certificate: Participants gained knowledge about the Youthpass Certificate, understanding its definition, usage, and importance for personal and professional development.

Creating Cultural Bonds and Healthy Habits

The Erasmus Youth Exchange Project "A Healthy Food, For A Wealthy Mood!" not only tackled the global issue of obesity but also created lasting cultural bonds among participants. By sharing their traditions, dances, and experiences, young people from different corners of Europe learned from each other and built friendships that transcend borders.

The project embodies the spirit of Erasmus, fostering global citizenship and active engagement in social issues. It serves as a powerful example of how youth exchanges can empower young individuals to make a positive impact on society and their own lives.

As the world continues to grapple with health-related challenges, initiatives like this remind us of the importance of education, cooperation, and healthy living. The participants of this Erasmus Youth Exchange Project have left Prague with more than just memories; they have left with the tools and knowledge to promote healthier, happier lives in their communities and beyond.
